Managing change in the workplace - how to help your team deal with change

Managing change has become increasingly more challenging over the last few years and it is unlikely to become easier in the years ahead. Arguably the greatest obstacle to successfully and smoothly implementing any change is your people. Introducing a work related change, whether large or small, is achieved with the cooperation and support of management and staff. It requires you as the manager to challenge the mind-set, inspire the change and embed the new culture.
Managers who can help their teams tackle change head on can add real value to their organisation. They do this by ensuring that there is clarity around priorities, effective communication and a focus on the desired results.
Whilst managers must be the change agents and champion the change, they must also be aware that everyone deals with change differently. They must take time to consider how to support each member of their team throughout this period of disruption.
This can be achieved through implementing a systematic approach to change and gaining the full commitment from all your team.

During this session Sean McLoughney will share his perspective on how to help your team deal with change. Some of the topics discussed will be;

  • Dealing with change in your organisation and the impact it has on your team, understanding the change process and why people can often resist change. Discuss the actions you can take to influence the mind-set of your team so that you can successfully implement the required change.
  • How to motivate and energise your team during a period of uncertainty and maintain a positive and proactive attitude. Using your coaching skills to move your team through the change process, from initial resistance to change through to embedding the change as a new way of working.
  • Outline effective leadership during change, recognising the key role played by managers in communicating with their team during a time of change and how this influences the team’s ability to move forward. Developing a communication plan for your team which helps to avoid misunderstandings and miscommunication while making sure your message is understood by your team
