Law & Regulation Day

Speaker: Keith Rooney, BL
Location: Dublin

Topics covered:

GDPR - Dealing with a request
The General Data Protection Regulation imposes a large and mostly welcome framework on the protection of personal data. One of the most common interactions with the new regime will be where requests are made by Data Subjects. In this session we will discuss how to address these requests, when they must be answered and how. We will also look at refusing Data Access Requests and the basis for doing so, along with the consequences.

Summary Approval Procedure
The Companies Act 2014 provided for expedient, cheap and simple methods to perform almost all of the functions of the modern company law regime. Chief among these is the Summary Approval Procedure. In this session we will discuss the formalities required when using this process, how it can save your company time and money and the legalities of using it for more complex company procedures.

White Collar Crime - Reporting Obligations
Some of the hardest crimes for the Gardai to investigate are white collar crimes. This stems primarily from there being no obvious crime to investigate unless things go terribly wrong. To address this the Oireachtas has put in place a number of Acts since 2010 seeking to require people with knowledge of potential white collar crimes to come forward and report them. In this session we will look and when and how you might be required to make such a report,  the protections in place for making one and the consequences for failing to do so.

Company Re-Organisations
The current economic climate has presented numerous opportunities to companies but also presents a number of difficulties. In this session we will look at the various mechanisms within the company law regime for reorganising a company that is in distress or to provide greater opportunities going forward. We will focus on schemes of arrangement, examinership as a means of corporate reorganisation and mergers.
