Meaningful Performance Review Meetings - 4 part webinar series

This 4-part webinar series will help you get the best out of your performance review process, particularly review meetings. It covers how to prepare fully for these important meetings, ensure that the conversations are two way and beneficial and that follow up actions are completed. Performance management is a core practice in managing people effectively within any organisation. It is the process of maintaining or improving employee job performance using various performance assessment tools, coaching and collaboration as well as providing continuous communication and feedback. During this series Sean will review best practice and discuss the merits of quarterly performance conversations with your team and how to prepare fully for these meetings. He will explain how to set goals the SMARTER way which will ensure that each goal agreed has clarity, is challenging and feeds into the business plan. When used correctly it outlines the value of each goal, which in turn leads to a higher level of engagement. Combine SMARTER goals with core business competencies which will have the multiplier effect and feed into your team’s engagement

Webinar 1 – Preparing for the review meetings

  • Identify the key issues with performance review meetings that managers need to address
  • Turn review meetings into the most important conversations between staff and management, encourage staff to think about what they bring to the business plan and how they impact the performance of their team and organisation
  • Build a roadmap for these meetings and develop a preparation checklist and some useful guides.
  • Review best practice and discuss the merits of quarterly review conversations.
  • Understand what their core business competencies are and how they can be aligned with business and individual goals
  • Understand the merits of discussing the business plan with the team and outlining how they can impact the plan prior to the review meetings

Webinar 2 – Conducting review meetings

  • Turn review meetings into a productive two-way conversation between staff and management, encourage staff to discuss their performance and any issues that are impacting their performance
  • Set goals the SMARTER way which will ensures that each goal agreed has clarity, is challenging and feeds into the business plan. When used correctly it outlines the value of each goal, which in turn leads to a higher level of engagement.
  • Combine SMARTER goals with core business competencies which will have the multiplier effect and feed into staff engagement
  • Understand what great feedback should include and how to use the BEST feedback method.
  • Build a feedback culture that promotes high performance and accountability in all staff; deal with performance issues before they become a problem
  • Include a discussion around role development and career progression during the review conversation

Webinar 3 – Performance Management is a continuous process

  • Develop the skills required to have a difficult conversation about underperformance.
  • Understand the 5 steps approach to addressing underperformance within the team; the consequences of ignoring poor performance and what are some of the causes
  • Plan regular one-to-one meetings to heighten the shared understanding of business objectives and what is expected of everyone to achieve these objectives: talented people expect their managers to communicate regularly with them and discuss how their work impacts the business.
  • Identify ways to keep these regular meetings fresh and relevant
  • Update individual goals as the business goals change during the year which will ensure everyone is focused on delivering a high performance
  • Review personal learning and development plans to ensure promises are kept and the team keeps learning

Webinar 4 – Coaching that delivers a great Performance

  • Building a framework to deliver one to one coaching sessions
  • Integrating coaching into the performance management process and performance conversations
  • Understanding which behaviours drives performance

  • Using the GROW Model to structure a coaching conversation
  • Delegation as part of coaching

This series will help you get the best from your performance review meetings with your team. It starts by discussing effective preparation and provides you with useful checklists and frameworks. It helps you to integrate performance management into the day-to-day activities of the team which will ensure high performance. Dealing with underperformance is also tackled and a 5-step approach explored. Underpinning the whole series is the need for managers to take ownership for turning the dreaded annual review into a tool for helping their team achieve expected results on a continuous basis. Finally, Managers who improve their coaching skills will be better able to utilize the talent within their team and therefore improve productivity, growth and results.
