The Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) (Amendment) Bill 2018 is expected to be signed into law shortly. The bill when enacted will amend the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 to give effect to certain provisions of the 4th AML Directive. This proposed legislation will impact on the anti-money laundering policies and procedures of accountancy firms. This session will explore and provide guidance to firms as they update their procedures.

In this session, CPA’s Colm Murphy draws on his background as a specialist accountancy recruiter to give delegates practical advice regarding CV writing, curating their LinkedIn profile, researching salary scales, dealing with recruiters and where the next opportunity might lie. Delegates interested in some one-to-one feedback on their CV can talk to Colm about their CV and LinkedIn profile.

Title:                       Fraud & Forensic Accounting

David Devereux, Director of Risk & Advisory Services at BDO Ireland, will discuss the pitfalls and common control weaknesses that can increase the risk of fraud and will highlight the practices and control features that can be implemented to create a more robust control environment and reduce fraud risk to a minimum. David will also discuss the world or Forensics and why organisations commission forensic investigations.

David is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Diploma in Forensic Accounting from Chartered Accountants Ireland. He joined BDO in 2012 from a large professional services firm where he trained as a Chartered Accountant and worked in Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk. David is a Director within the Risk and Advisory Services team with over 10 years’ experience in internal audit and control assignments. David has an in-depth understanding of internal control best practice across a number of sectors. He is an expert in delivering value-added Risk Advisory services including, Sarbanes Oxley Readiness, Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessments, and in developing ERM frameworks.
