Course Overview

Pensions:
Jonathan will provide a detailed presentation on the recent trends and changes for Pensions in the Irish market. The primary focus will be on the technical areas of Pensions and Jonathan will aim to provide a high-level synopsis of all of the pension structures available in the Irish Market and the differences between them. He will delve into the changes to the Standard Fund Threshold (SFT) and the options between funding a PRSA versus a Master Trust for business owners. Jonathan will also discuss the implications of IORP II and the key considerations for those who are being forced to move out of one-member Executive & Small Self-Administered Schemes before April 2026.  Jonathan will also discuss Pensions in the context Financial and Retirement Planning and how individuals can use cashflow planning and their pensions to pick the optimum retirement age and effectively transition to retirement. Throughout the presentation, Jonathan will provide real life case studies of how they are advising clients on navigating the complexities of pensions to achieve effective solutions for clients.

UK Non-Dom Reform – Impact and Opportunity from a UK and Irish Cross Border Perspective
Jessica and Emma will discuss the UK non-dom reform, impact and opportunity from a UK and Irish cross border perspective, and experiences and challenges in relation to the new FIG regime. They will share their knowledge through a series of case studies, shedding light on these changes and identifying both challenges and opportunities to those individuals impacted by these UK tax changes.

Have a practical understanding of the planning and compliance issues relating to Family Business Succession, Trust and Estate Disputes and be aware of the related taxes updates.

Speaker Bios

Jonathan Sheahan is Founder and Managing Director of Compass Private Wealth, with offices in Dublin and Cork. Having completed a Degree in Business Information Systems (BIS) in UCC and a Masters in Management and Organisational Studies in Smurfit (UCD), Jonathan then started his career in Deloitte in 2004 in Management Consultancy. He then worked as a Portfolio Manager in both Davy Private Clients and Smith & Williamson Investment Management (now Evelyn) before establishing Compass in 2015. Jonathan and his team in Compass specialise in advising higher net worth families on holistic wealth management, with a key focus on areas such as Asset Allocation, Investment Selection and Pensions.

Jessica Barnes EY is a seasoned tax advisor with over a decade of experience specialising in UK personal tax matters. She provides expert guidance to individuals on a wide range of tax issues, including inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and broader personal tax planning. Known for her clear, client-focused approach, Jessica helps clients navigate complex tax landscapes with confidence and clarity.

Emma Finnegan, EY is a Tax Manager in the Private Client team at EY Belfast, specialising in private client advisory. She works with individual clients in navigating a range of tax matters involving inheritance tax, capital gains tax and income taxes. She works closely and pro-actively with clients to deliver tailored, practical advice which helps them successfully manage their tax positions within the context of the ever-evolving UK tax landscape.
